Welcome to The Sociology Club

A collaborative hub for student-led sociology

Exploring Society, Empowering Community

The Sociology Club is a student-centered network for people who believe sociology is essential to democracy, collective wellbeing, and a just future. This site exists to connect sociology clubs, students, and allies across campuses; share resources and ideas; and showcase how sociological thinking fuels real-world change.

Whether you are starting a new sociology club, sustaining one that already exists, or simply looking for community around questions of power, inequality, culture, and resistance, you are welcome here.

What this space is for

Community & Collaboration

This is a meeting place for student leaders, faculty mentors, and community partners who organize around sociology. Expect tools for building and sustaining clubs, examples of programming, and ways to connect with others doing similar work in different places.

Exploration & Learning

Sociology lives in classrooms, but also in workplaces, families, media, movements, and streets. Here you will find reading lists, workshop templates, media guides, and conversation starters that translate sociological ideas into accessible, engaging formats.

Justice-Oriented Practice

Sociology has always been entangled with struggles over racism, colonialism, patriarchy, class, disability, and state violence. This project centers liberatory, anti-carceral, and decolonial approaches, and amplifies student work that challenges oppression rather than reproducing it.

Support for Student Leadership

Running a student organization is intellectual, emotional, and logistical labor. The Sociology Club shares sample constitutions, event ideas, facilitation tips, and reflections from student organizers to help make that work more sustainable and better resourced.

Who this is for

  • Students who are majoring or minoring in sociology (or thinking about it).
  • Students in other fields who use sociology to make sense of their lives, work, and communities.
  • Sociology clubs, honor societies, and informal reading or organizing groups.
  • Faculty, staff, and community partners who want to support student-centered, justice-focused sociology.

There is no membership requirement and no single “right” way to do sociology here; the goal is to nurture many local experiments, connected through shared commitments.

Why this project exists

Across North America and beyond, sociology programs and clubs are navigating funding cuts, political attacks on public higher education, and backlash against work on race, gender, sexuality, migration, and inequality. At the same time, sociological tools are urgently needed to understand and resist authoritarianism, ecological crisis, and everyday forms of violence and exclusion.

This site treats sociology as a public good: something that should be accessible, accountable, and oriented toward collective flourishing rather than private gain. By linking student groups, sharing materials, and telling the story of what sociology makes possible, The Sociology Club aims to strengthen the conditions under which critical, liberatory sociology can thrive.
